Meet Amanda

Originally from Northern Ireland, I started in horses collaborating with my daughter showing, jumping, cross country, and dressage. My love for animals has been with me from my earliest years. After retiring from 25 years of dog grooming, I was looking for a way to express my love for animals in a less physically demanding way.

I began drawing and painting animals in 2019. Starting in pencil, pastels, and watercolours and now have moved on to painting with my favourite medium of oil on canvas. I spent 15 years renewing my passion for horses again through the great plains and in the picturesque Black Hills of South Dakota. There I drew my inspiration from the landscape and culture in the Dakotas which included ranching, rodeo, barrel racing, and mountain trail riding. Now I have returned home to the Irish coastal scene of track racing, trekking the Mournes, or riding the beaches. Two differing cultures honouring God’s most beautiful creations. Whether it is horses or other animals, I strive to capture their expressive nature and grace.

I am opening my new art studio “Dragonfly Art Studio” in Crossgar County Down in early 2024 to devote my time and passion to painting commission artworks as well as subjects that I find beautiful or interesting. I will sell original works of art and limited edition giclee prints.
